Research Statement |
| Carl Rau is an internationally recognized expert in surface physics, magnetism and nanoscience. His research focuses on the electronic, magnetic and structural properties of novel magnetic materials to be used in future, ultrafast nano-scale devices. He has pioneered several spin-sensitive surface spectroscopies: electron capture spectroscopy (ECS), spin-polarized electron emission spectroscopy (SPEES) and scanning ion microscopy with polarization analysis (SIMPA). He has succeeded in producing a series of novel ultra-thin magnetic film systems that are epitaxially deposited on atomically flat single crystal substrates and that possess most striking physical properties. His research group is breaking new ground at the frontiers of surface physics, nanoscience and magnetism. For more information, see Rau's home page. For a list of selected publications, see links. |
